Planning meals can be fun. Meal Planning helps in staying within your budget, eating healthy and saving time.
I am usually really busy during the weekdays so staying on top of my meals is difficult. I’ve learned that planning my meals weekly has made it easier for me to track what I eat because I plan for it ahead of time.
I started to do my groceries on Sundays. Going into the store with a meal plan for the following week in mind gives me a better idea of what I need at the store.
I now spend my time purposely at the grocery store by looking for what’s on my list. I used to go to the store to get an idea of what meals I could have with no real schedule or time frame of when I should cook them. I end up wasting so much food by forgetting the ingredients I got for the meals I did not plan for.
My husband is not big on eating the same meal for the entire week so making a big batch of something at the beginning of the week isn’t an option. Meal planning is different though because although you’re not technically creating the meals ahead, you can prepare your ingredients ahead of time. This still helps narrow the choices of what to eat and saves the time looking for ingredients in your kitchen.
After deciding what fun recipes we want to try for the week, we start listing the ingredients we need. We do an inventory of our “ingredients” at home before going to the store. This really helps ensure nothing gets wasted. We make four servings for dinner. We eat the first two and bring the other two for lunch the next day.
We got the Insta Pot Duo 60 as a wedding present and absolutely love it. Insta Pot makes cooking a lot easier and faster. We place all the ingredients in the pot, pressure cook for ~10 mins for chicken and it’s done! We love it because even the clean up is easy too. Just need to clean one pot after. I like that we don’t have to compromise delicious meals for the time we don’t have.
I know I sound like a sales person for it but I’m actually not sponsored by Insta Pot. I’m just happy with how much it improved our quality of life and would totally recommend it to anyone.
So enough about me, here’s a printable I made to help you get started on your Weekly Meal Planning:
